
After the merger between the Euroskilt group and the Ørsta group, it soon was decided that Vik Verk and Ørsta Stål were to merge because the two companies operate in the same business areas. The new unit, which is temporarily called VikØrsta, will become the largest individual company in SafeRoad.
“It is an important and correct decision to merge Vik and Ørsta in order to exploit the synergies of having just one organisation."
"The restructuring was done to form the basis for the further development of the company, so that existing jobs could be maintained and new ones created,” says Svenn Egil Finden, who is leading the work in preparing Vik Verk AS in Sogn and Ørsta Stål AS in Ørsta for the merger between the two companies.
“We also have our work cut out for us with respect to making the authorities aware of the importance of traffic safety measures. We must, both in relation to authorities and customers, be able to communicate information on the technological expertise we are in possession of.
The approximately 85 employees are fully focused on road safety products.
Products such as road railings, bridge parapets, walkway and cycle path railings, tunnel linings and sound barriers.

Ørsta Stål, with its 230 employees, operates within the fields of Traffic Safety, Lighting systems and Rock support, in addition to manufacturing marina installations and aquaculture equipment.
The Rock support business area consists of products for securing tunnels and mines as well as arches for the water and frost protection of tunnels.
Lighting consists of products such as lamp posts, park lamps and lighting columns. The Traffic Safety area consists of bridge and road railings and products for public spaces such as bicycle stands and benches.
“The new, merged company will have an even stronger position than Ørsta and Vik have had separately,” says Svenn Egil Finden.
VikØrsta has been the working name following the merger of Ørsta Stål AS and Vik Verk AS. The merger will be formally completed on 1 January 2008. By then, the company will have a new name.
